For Those Who Serve

Scholarship to help students with military ties.

A new endowed scholarship will help students who have personal or family connections to the military, helping to enhance NC State’s reputation as a military-friendly campus.

The scholarship is the result of a gift by Jerry Collier ’67 and his wife, Pat Collier, both of whom have military ties of their own. The Colliers have built a successful construction and property management company in Virginia Beach, Va., but only after Jerry Collier served in the U.S. Navy for four years. Pat Collier grew up in a Navy family.

“Students who go into the military right out of high school and then decide they want to go to college, they may already be married and have a kid or two,” says Jerry Collier. “Those students probably have more needs than a student just coming out of high school. And we want to honor their service.”

The scholarship will eventually provide financial aid for as many as 100 undergraduate and graduate students a year in the College of Engineering.
